Kaikoura Civic Centre

Kaikoura Civic Centre

Architecturally designed to represent a giant cray pot, the Kaikoura Civic Centre resists lateral loading through Pres-Lam walls spread around the structure.

These walls are also the first cross-laminated timber (CLT) used in a Pres-Lam structure. To provide strength where required, LVL was used in critical regions of the CLT, another first for New Zealand.

The Civic building has won awards for the innovative use of timber, resulting in a distinctive technical and structural solution in a residential, commercial, industrial, or public building environment.
